Tourism specialists are allrounders. They know who does tourism politics in Switzerland, they recognise the prospects of the package holiday business and can determine the cash flow of a mountain train or understand what gentle tourism entails. This generalist knowledge is imparted in the course Tourism Specialist. The lessons are as varied and exciting as the course itself. During the first two semesters the student becomes familiar with the necessary basic knowledge, which can be put into practice in the traineeship lasting one year. In the last two semesters the knowledge obtained is deepened and completed.
Qualified teachers make the lessons interesting and challenging. Case studies from real life and technical literature analysis enrich the lessons. Group projects, excursions and various events broaden the students’ personal horizons. Through project work and diploma projects they can show what they have learnt.
The possibility of working and studying:
The course for tourism specialists at the IST is also offered on a part-time basis. The trainees attend lessons on Saturdays and in the evenings for five semesters just like the full-time students. The practical training is obviously left out, on condition that one works at least 80% in a tourism company per semester.
