Travellers and holiday makers, i.e. our customers, should be able to relax and enjoy themselves. In order to guarantee this, professional tourism specialists at various levels and in many domains are in demand: at airlines and railways, in hotels or in tourism offices, at Swiss Tourism, on cruise liners or in travel agencies, at fairs, congresses or other events and in marketing firms – be it in Switzerland or abroad.

Expert knowledge for professionals

At the International School of Tourism Management, students receive the education and training they require for their future profession. The expertise they acquire provides them with the right skills in order to gain ground in their professional life and to work successfully. For instance, the 3-year course (full time) or the 21/2- year course (in tandem with work) to graduate as Tourism Specialist HF. This foundation is based on solid knowledge of the following subjects: Tourism Basics, Tourism Politics, Tourism Geography, Marketing, Project Management, Rhetoric, IT, Accounts, Languages, Travel Industry Studies, Aviation Business and Transport Policy.

If you would like a faster transfer, the basic course Travel Industry Studies could be just right for you. Within three months (intensive) or nine months (in tandem with work) you will be trained to become a professional travel consultant. You will learn how to give advice to your customers and to make travel bookings accordingly.

If you are doing a commercial apprenticeship in a tourism company, it could very well be that you are taught by our tourism specialists within the subject Tourism Industry. On behalf of regional tourist office associations, the IST runs industry-wide courses for students doing basic commercial training.

More than 130 specialists and tourism professionals impart comprehensive knowledge in both theory and practice in several courses of studies and training courses. A consistent and active quality management guarantees a high level of teaching and studies. The education and training programme, which has been designed according to current insights in adult education, is organised in a module-like way.

Varied and interdisciplinary

Group work, project management, presentations given by external experts, excursions, project weeks, activity days, event management, marketing analyses and practical assignments from the tourism economy as well as IT lessons and practical training in tourism companies at home or abroad encourage our students’ interdisciplinary thinking abilities and prepare them for the demanding world of work.
